Beginning in the first week of January, small groups of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students meet weekly during lunch for eight weeks. The purpose is to improve students' ability to understand and interpret stories. The program is sponsored by the PTO and supervised by parent volunteers.
The FIRST Lego League is an international program that introduces kids ages 9-14 to the fun and excitement of science and technology while building self confidence, knowledge and life skills. Requires some parental funding.
Twice a year each class in grades 3, 4 and 5 elects two representatives to serve on Round Table. Young Rembrandts
Fifth graders help younger children safely cross intersections and crosswalks before school and at dismissal time. New members will receive training prior to school opening in September.
Fifth graders help throughout the school in the early morning, lunch time, and at dismissal. They help kindergartners from the buses to their classrooms, and help them get ready to go home at dismissal. During inclement weather, they help in first grade duing indoor lunch recess. They also work in the Media Center and Main Office.
Every four weeks a team of fifth graders collaborates to create daily broadcast to the entire school. Students apply for the team and serve as writers, camera operators, and reporters.
