In
April the fifth graders willattend Camp Copneconic for three days. The fifth grade
teachers, principal and a volunteer team composed mainly of student teachers
and guest teachers will accompany the students. There they combine academic
learning with outdoor activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, hiking,
and team-building. |
The Chess Club meets for eight- week sessions in the fall and spring. The club is for beginner and intermediate players in grades 1 to 5. The instructors are USCF certified and from All the King's Men Staff. For more information, visit their website. |

| Teams
of up to seven students form in the fall to undertake two challenges:
a team challenge and an instant challenge. They present their solutions
in a tournament-style setting using teamwork, rapid-fire critical thinking,
and improvisational skills. Volunteers, often parents, serve as advisors.

Beginning
in the first week of January, small groups of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade
students meet weekly during lunch for eight weeks. The purpose is to improve
students' ability to understand and interpret stories. The program is
sponsored by the PTO and supervised by parent volunteers. |
The
FIRST Lego League is an international program that introduces kids ages
9-14 to the fun and excitement of science and technology while building
self confidence, knowledge and life skills. FLL teams solve problems using
engineering concepts, presentation techniques and robots. The team is
meeting from late August until early December, twice a week for two hours.

Twice
a year each class in grades 3, 4 and 5 elects two representatives to serve
on Round Table. Student representatives plan and organize a variety of
all-school activities, such as Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF and Pennies for
Peace. They meet monthly before school at 7:30 AM in Room 1. The advisors
are Mrs. Palaj and Mrs. Martin. |

Fifth
graders help younger children safely cross intersections and crosswalks
before school and at dismissal time. New members will receive training
prior to school opening in September. |
Fifth
graders help throughout the school in the early morning, lunch time, and
at dismissal. They help kindergartners from the buses to their classrooms,
and help them get ready to go home at dismissal. During inclement weather,
they help in first grade duing indoor lunch recess. They also work in
the Media Center and Main Office. |
Every
four weeks a team of fifth graders collaborates to create daily broadcast
to the entire school. Students apply for the team and serve as writers,
camera operators, and reporters. |
